The Vineyards that produce the Galante Wines are located in the coastal mountains of Carmel Valley, California. The property ranges from 700 feet to 2,200 feet above sea level, with grapes grown and various elevations to accentuate their individual characters and properties. Grapes grown on these south-facing slopes produce wines of exceptional body and character. These factors and more, influence the quality of the grapes grown at these vineyards.
Due to the extreme daily temperature variations in the Carmel Valley Appellation that can vary 50 to 60 degrees daily, the growing season is very long with harvest normally occurring in late September though October. This long "hang time" causes the grapes to ripen slowly, intensifying their rich berry flavors. We also thin the crop to an average of two tons per acre, providing a low yield of very high quality grapes. We do not use pesticides or herbicides in the vineyards, and only irrigate when needed. These methods, and others, combine to produce the highest quality grapes in all of Carmel Valley.
